Rice Fields, Warships, and Sea Turtles

Charles Towne Landing starts at the Ashley River settlement founded by English colonists in 1670. Caw Caw preserves former rice fields, dikes, and water-control structures built through the knowledge and labor of enslaved Africans and African Americans. The landscape also carries the history of the 1739 Stono Rebellion. At Gadsden's Wharf, the International African American Museum connects the Middle Passage with Lowcountry and African American history, genealogy, and a memorial garden. The Old Exchange brings commerce, public slave auctions, government, and wartime imprisonment into one building. Fort Moultrie shows how harbor defenses changed from 1776 through 1947.Patriots Point puts visitors aboard USS Yorktown and USS Laffey alongside historic aircraft and military exhibits. The South Carolina Aquarium follows the state's habitats from mountains and rivers to salt marsh and ocean, with a sea-turtle care area visible to visitors. Admission, tours, tickets, parking, programs, and reservations are not included with the PopHops Pass.
