International African American Museum
The International African American Museum stands at Gadsden's Wharf, a waterfront site where the museum estimates that roughly 40 percent of enslaved Africans entering the United States arrived. Galleries connect Africa, the Middle Passage, the Lowcountry, South Carolina, and African American life across generations. The Center for Family History helps visitors use names, records, and genealogy alongside the broader exhibitions. Outside, the African Ancestors Memorial Garden marks the wharf and its history. Admission is paid and timed, Monday is closed, Sunday opens later, and the final entry is before closing.
