Minnehaha Regional Park

Minnehaha comes from Dakota words referring to a waterfall. The parkland around Minnehaha Falls was purchased in 1889 and became one of the country's earliest state parks, although Minneapolis funded and managed it from the beginning. The upper overlook provides the easiest view of the limestone falls. Stairs and paths lead into the creek gorge when conditions allow, while gardens and historic structures fill the developed park above. Access is free, but ice, wet stairs, creek flow, construction, parking, concessions, and restrooms change with the season.
