Kubota Garden

Japanese immigrant and master landscaper Fujitaro Kubota began this garden in 1927 as his family home, nursery, and display garden. He combined Japanese design techniques with Northwest plants, stone, and terrain. The resulting 20 acres hold hills, valleys, ponds, waterfalls, bridges, and rock outcroppings. The core garden became a Seattle Landmark in 1981, and the city acquired the full property from the Kubota estate in 1987. Admission is free. The outdoor paths include slopes, steps, uneven stone, water edges, and surfaces that can become slick after rain.
