Peninsula Park Rose Garden
Peninsula Park's sunken rose garden opened in 1913 as Portland's first public rose garden. Formal beds, brick paths, a fountain, ornamental lights, and an octagonal bandstand survive from the City Beautiful era, years before the larger International Rose Test Garden took over the city's rose trials. The free garden remains part of an active neighborhood park used for walks, concerts, weddings, and everyday play. Roses and the fountain are seasonal. Ramps reach the sunken garden, though grass edges are not accessible paths, and dogs must remain leashed.
