James M. White established the Broken Spoke on South Lamar Boulevard in 1964. The White family has kept the country dance hall operating through decades of rapid development around it, with a low stage, long dance floor, restaurant, and walls crowded with photographs and memorabilia.Bands and two-step dancers still use the room Tuesday through Saturday. Dance lessons, dinner service, early sets, headline bands, cover charges, and age rules follow different times and terms. The venue received a Texas historical marker in 2023. More
