Harry Ransom Center

The Harry Ransom Center holds nearly one million books, more than 42 million manuscripts, five million photographs, and 100,000 works of art. Its best-known public objects are one of twenty complete Gutenberg Bibles and Joseph Nicéphore Niépce's heliograph, the earliest surviving photograph made with a camera. The exhibition galleries are free, and both objects remain on view alongside rotating shows drawn from literature, photography, film, art, and performing-arts archives. The Reading Room is a separate research facility with different hours, photo-ID registration, orientation, and material-handling rules.
