Tohono Chul Botanical Gardens, Galleries, and Bistro
Watch a conservation decision become a place.Richard and Jean Wilson began assembling the land in 1966 and repeatedly refused proposals to cover it with development. What started as labeled paths became a public desert preserve formally dedicated in 1985 and expanded to 49 acres by 1997. Today, themed gardens, nature trails, galleries, and an ethnobotanical collection connect Sonoran plants with the people, arts, and water choices that give them meaning.Arrive early and follow one relationship closely: food plants in the Ethnobotanical Garden, rainfall in the Sin Agua Garden, or habitat along a shaded trail. Current summer grounds hours are 07:00-14:00 daily through September 7, while galleries open at 08:00. Most grounds, buildings, and paths are documented as accessible, but natural desert surfaces, extreme heat, cactus, and wildlife remain real; pets are not permitted and holiday closures apply.
