Moynihan Train Hall at Penn Station
Where the old Pennsylvania Station was lost, Moynihan Train Hall makes a careful argument for arrival at civic scale. The hall opened in 2021 inside the landmark James A. Farley Building, the 1914 post office designed by McKim, Mead & White as a companion to the original station across Eighth Avenue. Instead of copying what disappeared, the conversion exposes early steel trusses beneath a 92-foot-high skylight and gathers passengers around a new central clock.Begin on the main concourse, then follow the structure outward: restored fabric of the Farley Building meets contemporary screens, passenger gates, and site-specific public art. If time allows, find the 33rd Street entry work by Kehinde Wiley or look for the building-history mural near baggage claim. This is an active Amtrak and Long Island Rail Road terminal, not a museum. Keep boarding paths clear and follow posted access rules. The hall is open daily 5 AM–1 AM; overnight rail service uses Penn Station. No fare, lounge access, reserved seating, or event benefit is included.
