Oculus World Trade Center

From Greenwich Street, the white ribs appear to lift away from the World Trade Center campus; inside, they gather into a single long nave of light. Santiago Calatrava designed the Oculus as the headhouse of the World Trade Center Transportation Hub, where PATH, subway connections, shops, and public programming share one continuous room. Walk to the center of the main floor, then look along the skylight to see how structure and circulation pull the eye in the same direction. The Port Authority describes the building’s orientation and operable skylight as part of a September 11 solar alignment, with a “Wedge of Light” moving across the floor during the hours of the attacks. Treat that meaning with care while the hall continues its everyday work for commuters. The Oculus is active transit infrastructure; keep exits and passenger paths clear, use posted elevator routes when needed, and check campus notices for events or closures. Street-level access is limited from 1–5 AM. No fare, retail purchase, event entry, or special access is included.
