Exploratorium
Physicist and teacher Frank Oppenheimer opened the Exploratorium in 1969 as a place where people could learn by testing things for themselves. The museum moved to Pier 15 in 2013, placing hundreds of interactive exhibits inside a restored waterfront building supported by roughly 1,200 piles over the bay.The exhibits cover light, sound, motion, biology, human behavior, and perception. Many are working experiments rather than objects behind glass, so a visit can involve mirrors, magnets, shadows, fog, optical illusions, and machines built in the museum's own workshop. Admission is paid, Monday is closed, and Thursday evening uses a separate adults-only schedule.
