California State Capitol Museum
Watch the law being made inside the monument.California's Capitol has served as a seat of government since 1869, so its neoclassical dome is not only a historic image. Restored rooms preserve earlier political life while the active Senate and Assembly chambers keep the building tied to the unresolved work of the present. That overlap makes the museum most interesting when visitors compare what the state commemorates with what its government is deciding now.Admission is free, and public tours are generally offered hourly on weekdays from 10:00 to 16:00 on a first-come basis, with a current maximum of 35 people. Expect security screening and bring as little as possible. Construction, legislative sessions, holidays, and official business can change entrances, gallery access, and tour cadence without much notice.
