American Civil War Museum- Historic Tredegar
Tredegar's first forge and rolling mill opened in 1837 using water from the Kanawha Canal. The ironworks later produced more than half of the Confederate army's cannon and rolled armor for the ironclad CSS Virginia. The ticketed museum uses two floors and the surrounding riverfront industrial site to cover the war's causes, events, consequences, and Reconstruction through many civilian and military perspectives. Tours and demonstrations change by date, and nearby parking is limited.
