Dix Park

For roughly 160 years, this hill held North Carolina's first mental-health hospital. The site also carries histories of plantation land, institutional care, state administration, and reform before Raleigh acquired 308 acres in 2015 for its largest public park.The park is free and open from dawn to dusk. A community-led plan continues to add play, art, fields, events, and public spaces while state offices and leased areas remain active.
