Duquesne Incline
The Duquesne Incline opened in 1877 to carry people and goods up the steep side of Mount Washington. Its restored wooden cars still climb the original route, giving a moving view of downtown Pittsburgh, the three rivers, bridges, stadiums, and Point State Park. The incline runs from early morning until after midnight and charges a fare. The upper station contains historic machinery and a small display, while the lower station is reached from West Carson Street. Maintenance, weather, and special events can interrupt service.
