Desert Botanical Garden
Desert Botanical Garden began with local residents who organized to protect desert plants and opened the site in 1939. Today, more than 50,000 plant displays fill 55 cultivated acres with cactus, agave, desert trees, wildflowers, and other species adapted to heat and limited water. The trails make roots, spines, shade, bloom cycles, and water storage visible across a living Sonoran Desert collection. Admission is paid. During July and August, trails close for four hours in the hottest part of the afternoon even though the venue remains open. Heat alerts, trail work, events, and timed-ticket rules can also affect access.
