Mütter Museum
The College of Physicians of Philadelphia was founded in 1787 with a mandate to lessen human misery. Its Mütter Museum and Historical Medical Library use biological specimens, medical instruments, rare books, and archives to cover the history of medicine and public health. Displays include preserved anatomy, models, diagnostic tools, and evidence of how medical knowledge and treatment have changed. Some objects came from people who had little or no control over how their bodies were collected or displayed. Current interpretation addresses consent, diagnosis, disability, and the ethics of medical collections. Capacity is limited to 50 visitors per half hour, and weekend tickets are strongly recommended. The museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Monday, with Tuesday evening hours currently listed through October 27, 2026.
