Wells'Built Museum of African American History & Culture
Enter the hotel segregation made necessary.Black physician and entrepreneur Dr. William Monroe Wells built the hotel in 1926 because African American travelers were denied rooms elsewhere in segregated Orlando. Entertainers, athletes, and other visitors found lodging here in Parramore, near the South Street Casino Wells also operated. The museum opened in 2009 and now holds community memorabilia and exhibitions about Orlando's Black history and civil-rights movement.Access and volatility truth: The venue's own page currently conflicts with itself. Its prominent current banner says Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 09:00–17:00, while its footer says Monday–Friday 09:00–17:00 plus the second weekend of each month. Use the narrower schedule above and call 407-245-7535 immediately before visiting. Tours and admission are venue-controlled; the published site does not provide enough whole-building mobility detail to justify a Wheelchair Accessible tag.
