Great Plains Black History Museum
Bertha Calloway formed the Negro History Society in 1962 because Black history was largely absent from local classrooms. She collected artifacts, papers, photographs, art, and stories, then opened the Great Plains Black History Museum in 1976.Current exhibitions cover subjects including lynching and resistance, North Omaha athletes, civil rights, and streets named for African Americans. Admission is free, and public hours are limited to Wednesday through Saturday afternoons. Booking ahead is strongly encouraged, while private tours require an appointment.
