Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum
The 9:01 and 9:03 Gates frame the minute that changed Oklahoma City. Between them, a Reflecting Pool covers the path of former Fifth Street, and 168 empty chairs occupy nine rows corresponding to the floors of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. The design does not ask visitors to imagine an abstract tragedy; it gives time, place, and each person a visible position.Walk the Outdoor Symbolic Memorial slowly before entering the museum. Notice the surviving wall, the Survivor Tree, and tokens still left at the Fence, then follow the museum’s chronological account through April 19, 1995, the rescue, investigation, justice process, and the community’s continuing work of remembrance. This is the Pass’s clearest example of public history built from absence, testimony, artifacts, and hard questions rather than triumph alone. The outdoor memorial is free and open 24 hours. The paid museum is open Monday–Saturday 9 AM–5 PM and Sunday noon–5 PM, with the last ticket sold one hour before closing. Bags are restricted, firearms are prohibited except for credentialed law enforcement, and current construction can shift the visitor entrance; follow posted directions and give the experience time and quiet.
