National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum

Here, the West is both lived history and a picture people keep remaking. The American Cowboy Gallery follows equipment and working practice from Spanish colonial traditions into the twentieth century, while Prosperity Junction reconstructs a cattle town shaped by rail, trade, school, church, and civic life. Fine art, rodeo, Native American material, firearms, film, music, and performance expand the subject beyond one heroic silhouette.Choose a contrast and follow it. Compare regional saddles and tools with a movie poster, or walk from a carefully staged town street into the museum’s current Heart & Soul reinterpretation project, which is reorganizing galleries around a more connected and diverse account of the American West. The most revealing question is not simply “Was this Western?” but “Who made this version of the West, and for whom?”The museum charges admission. Current hours run Monday–Thursday 10 AM–5 PM, Friday–Saturday 10 AM–8 PM, and Sunday noon–5 PM; outdoor areas close at 5. The American Rodeo Gallery is closed for renovation until fall 2026, and weather can affect operation. Large bags must be checked, and wheelchairs and strollers are available first-come.
