Oklahoma History Center

The Oklahoma History Center is where the Pass’s separate story lines begin to cross. A replica of Wiley Post’s Winnie Mae hangs above the great hall; nearby galleries move through American Indian history, Black Oklahoma, commerce, oil and gas, agriculture, military experience, law, popular culture, and the changing image projected by the musical Oklahoma! More than a greatest-hits display, the museum lets one subject interrupt another.Choose two threads rather than racing every gallery. Compare the Nation-centered material in “We Are Who We Were” with the settler imagery at the Land Run Monument, or follow aviation and energy into the state’s modern economy. The Red River Journey and outdoor exhibits extend the story into landscape and machinery, while the separate Research Center shows how public history is built from newspapers, photographs, manuscripts, maps, and oral histories.Museum hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 AM–5 PM; the Research Center runs Tuesday through Saturday on its own schedule. Admission is required, visitors under 18 need an adult, and low gallery lighting protects artifacts. Complimentary wheelchairs, audio tours, scripts, and an elevator are available; flash, tripods, selfie sticks, food, and drink are not allowed in galleries.
