First Americans Museum
Start where Oklahoma’s story is told in the first person. First Americans Museum’s signature OKLA HOMMA exhibition brings together art, film, interactive media, and cultural materials to share the histories and present lives of the 39 Tribal Nations in Oklahoma today. The point is plurality: these are distinct Nations with different origins, removals, traditions, and contemporary voices, not one interchangeable story.Arrival reinforces that idea. The Hall of The People takes inspiration from a Wichita grass house and honors the Wichita and Affiliated Tribes’ relationship to this place; outside, the FAM Mound pays tribute to Nations with Moundbuilder ancestry or earthen-architecture traditions. Move between those spaces and the galleries, noticing how architecture, landscape, and objects each carry a different kind of knowledge. The museum is closed Tuesdays, weekend opening is later, and the FAMily Discovery Center closes at 4 PM with timed entry and a waiver. Outdoor mound tours move indoors in bad weather. Admission is required for the main exhibitions, so give this anchor visit its own half-day rather than treating it as a quick stop.
