New Orleans Jazz Museum

The Old U.S. Mint was completed in 1838 and produced both American and Confederate coinage, the only U.S. mint to do so. After minting ended in 1909, the building served as a federal prison, a Coast Guard facility, and other federal offices before opening as a Louisiana State Museum site in 1981.The building now holds the New Orleans Jazz Museum, the Louisiana Historical Center, changing exhibitions, a coin-making display, and a third-floor performance venue. Instruments, recordings, photographs, and live programs put the city's music inside a building with a separate political and industrial history. The museum is currently open Tuesday through Sunday and charges admission, with the last ticket sold before closing.
