National Museum of African American Music
Start with the center of the story. The National Museum of African American Music is dedicated to preserving and teaching music created, influenced, and inspired by African Americans, from gospel and blues to jazz, R&B, and hip-hop.The galleries refuse the idea that these sounds are side chapters. They follow the innovations, migrations, technologies, and communities that made Black music foundational to how America listens—and let the connections between genres do as much work as the famous names. This is a paid museum at Fifth + Broadway. Current public hours are Monday noon–5, Tuesday–Saturday 10–5, and Sunday noon–5, with last entry at 4; recheck the museum's official visit page for holiday changes, ticket availability, and access rules.
