America's Black Holocaust Museum

Dr. James Cameron survived a lynching in Marion, Indiana, in 1930, when he was 16. After visiting Yad Vashem in Jerusalem, he opened America's Black Holocaust Museum in a Milwaukee storefront in 1988.The galleries move chronologically from African life before captivity through enslavement, Jim Crow, the civil rights movement, and the present. The museum charges admission, closes Sunday and Monday, and has shorter hours Friday and Saturday. Exhibits include direct accounts and images of racial terror and lynching.
