Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center

Frank Lloyd Wright first proposed a curving civic center on Lake Monona in 1938. After failed votes, redesigns, political reversals, and Wright's death, Madison voters revived the idea in 1992 and Monona Terrace opened in 1997 using his final exterior design. The public building, lake-facing terraces, and free Level 3 exhibit can be visited without a full event ticket. Reserved architecture tours run Thursday through Saturday and charge a small fee. Conventions, private rentals, holidays, and weather can restrict public rooms or the rooftop.
