Falls of the Ohio State Park
Falls of the Ohio State Park protects exposed Devonian fossil beds roughly 390 million years old. The same broad limestone barrier interrupted navigation on the Ohio River and forced boats and cargo to stop, unload, and portage around it, helping create the cities on both banks. The interpretive center and parking are paid, while park grounds have longer daily hours. Natural fossil-bed access depends on river level and is often best from August through October. Wet limestone can be slippery, and collecting from the natural beds is prohibited.
