Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort State Historic Park
Las Vegas begins beside a creek. In 1855, Mormon missionaries built an adobe fort near springs that fed Las Vegas Creek—the only free-flowing water for miles and a practical reason people could stop, irrigate, and settle here.Walk the surviving landscape slowly: the creek, orchard story, adobe remains, and museum place the city’s origin at water level rather than under neon. The site became a way station and changed hands long before the surrounding town grew into modern Las Vegas. The museum currently charges $3, with children 12 and under free. It is open Tuesday through Saturday, with last admission before closing; Sunday and Monday are closed. Do not climb or touch artifacts, bring pets other than service animals, or assume special access. Recheck Nevada State Parks for closures before visiting.
