Bonaventure Cemetery

Bonaventure became a private cemetery in 1846 and passed into City of Savannah ownership in 1907. More than 100 acres of roads, family plots, live oaks, sculpture, and weathered stone spread across a bluff above the Wilmington River. The cemetery remains active, and people still come for burials, private mourning, maintenance, and family research. It opens daily during daylight hours, with gates closing at 5:00 p.m. Services, severe weather, and cemetery operations can affect access.
