Telfair Academy
Telfair Academy began as a private mansion designed by William Jay and completed around 1820. The building opened to the public as an art museum in 1886, turning a family residence into one of the South's earliest public art museums. The galleries hold American and European paintings, sculpture, works on paper, and decorative arts from the 19th and 20th centuries. The historic interiors remain part of the experience rather than disappearing behind the collection. Admission is paid, Monday is closed, and exhibitions rotate.
