Davenport House Museum Entrance and Shop
Davenport House was marked for demolition in 1955 to make room for parking. Seven women stopped the work, bought the building, and founded Historic Savannah Foundation. The restored house opened as a museum in 1963 and became a catalyst for organized preservation across the city.Guided tours cover the early-19th-century household and the lives of enslaved and free people who lived and worked there. Tours last about 70 minutes and use timed entry. The historic house has several curved staircases and no elevator, while the separate urban-enslavement exhibition is wheelchair accessible. Sunday is closed.
