American Jazz Museum
Kansas City did not simply host jazz; musicians here bent its pulse. In the 1930s and 1940s, 18th & Vine was a center of Black business, nightlife, and musical invention, and figures including Charlie Parker carried the city’s sound far beyond these blocks. The American Jazz Museum interprets that lineage at the address where it still matters most.Listen as much as you look. Exhibits use recordings, film, photographs, and objects to connect artists to the social world that shaped their work. The Blue Room is not a stage set but a working club, making the museum’s strongest argument in real time: Kansas City jazz belongs to history and to tonight.Museum hours are Monday through Saturday 10 a.m.–5 p.m. and Sunday noon–5 p.m.; admission is ticketed. Blue Room performance hours and admission arrangements differ from the museum. Current construction in the 18th & Vine district may affect parking and street access, so check the museum’s update before leaving.
