The Menil Collection
The Menil begins quietly. From Sul Ross Street, the main building sits low behind lawn and trees, more like part of the neighborhood than a monumental museum. Cross that threshold and the pace stays measured: naturally lit galleries invite direct looking, while free guides add context without crowding the walls. Start in the main building, then decide whether to continue across the 30-acre campus to the Cy Twombly Gallery, Richmond Hall, or other open buildings rather than trying to collect them all at once. The Menil is always free and open Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; individual campus buildings can have temporary closures, so check the same-day visitor notice. In this Pass, it is the daylight room—the place where Houston’s scale becomes personal through attention rather than spectacle.
