San Antonio Museum of Art

San Antonio Museum of Art occupies the former Lone Star Brewery, a red-brick complex beside the river that reopened as an art museum in 1981. The towers, arched windows, and industrial scale make the building part of the visit before the first gallery. The collection spans roughly 5,000 years. Ancient Mediterranean galleries sit alongside Asian art, Latin American art from the ancient Americas forward, contemporary work, and Texas and regional art. That range creates direct comparisons across material, religion, trade, power, and daily life without requiring a special exhibition.General admission is paid, with specific free periods for Bexar County residents and separate terms for special exhibitions. The museum is closed Monday and stays open later on Tuesday and Friday. Backpacks aren't allowed in galleries. Wheelchairs and noise-canceling headphones are available first come, first served, and several bus routes stop nearby.
