Stockyards Museum
Start in the building where cattle became numbers, contracts, and a city. The Stockyards opened in 1890 and operated through changing eras as a place of business before becoming a major visitor district. Managed by the North Fort Worth Historical Society, the museum occupies the first floor of the historic Livestock Exchange Building and uses artifacts and records to explain how the yards developed. The exchange makes a better beginning than a staged gunfight: it exposes the system behind the image.Read the museum before the district’s spectacle, then look back at the building and Exchange Avenue with that machinery in mind. General admission is currently $3 and children 12 and under are free. Cattle drives, rodeos, tours, and other Stockyards programs maintain separate schedules and prices; none is guaranteed by this Hop or included with the Pass. Brick streets, crowds, heat, animals, traffic, and special events can change movement through the district.
