Cheyenne Mountain Zoo
Save the steepest city stop for a place where the mountain keeps going. Cheyenne Mountain Zoo spreads across terrain near 7,000 feet, so the view, the grade, and the effort between habitats are part of the experience. The zoo turns one hundred in 2026, but its most useful scale is immediate: climate shapes whether animals use indoor or outdoor spaces, conservation stories connect individual species to habitats far beyond Colorado, and the Mountaineer Sky Ride reveals how the institution sits above the city. Never promise a particular animal or demonstration.Advance timed e-tickets are required for every visitor, including members and young children, and popular entry windows can sell out. The zoo is open daily 09:00–17:00 but may close early for events. Construction currently changes some routes. Because the grounds are steep, official access guidance recommends water, a slower pace, and the weather-permitting guest shuttle; rentals and accessible shuttles are limited, so the Hop is deliberately not tagged universally wheelchair-accessible.
