The Broadmoor Manitou and Pikes Peak Cog Railway
Climb without pretending altitude is effortless. The Cog turns a steep mountain journey into visible machinery: rack rail, grade, rolling stock, and a route that moves through multiple ecological zones before reaching 14,115 feet. The first passenger train reached the summit in June 1891. Today's trip covers nine miles in each direction and lasts about three hours, including roughly forty minutes at the top; the rebuilt experience debuted in 2021 while keeping the historic line in use. Notice how quickly vegetation and weather fall away as the train climbs.Advance tickets are strongly recommended, and visitors should arrive at least thirty minutes before departure. Schedules vary by date and weather, so a broad summer operating window is not a promise of a particular train. Limited accessible seating must be reserved by calling ahead. The operator does not recommend the trip for infants under six months or people with cardiac/respiratory concerns without medical advice; hydrate and expect summit temperatures well below Manitou Springs.
