The Whole Lakefront, North to South
Chicago's lakefront is not one view; it is a long public experiment. Downtown, the shore holds mirrored sculpture and designed play. Farther south, a planned island has become habitat, limestone steps open a wide horizon, and a former private club now belongs to public culture. This Pass collects seven exact places where the city gives Lake Michigan a different job: gallery, playground, wetland, refuge, gathering edge, garden, and neighborhood institution. At each Hop, notice what was built, what was reclaimed, and who the space serves now. The payoff is a Chicago story told through contrasts rather than a race between landmarks.Choose one or two Hops at a time and return in another season. The collection spans many miles and is not a one-day itinerary. Wind, waves, ice, construction, events, and seasonal facilities can change access; use posted rules, stay off wet shoreline stone, and treat swimming, rentals, tickets, and programmed rooms as separate current decisions. No purchase, benefit, or venue partnership is implied.
