Mission Trails Regional Park Visitor and Interpretive Center
Mission Trails Regional Park covers 8,000 acres of rugged hills, valleys, chaparral, and sage scrub around Mission Gorge. The visitor center terrace opens to a broad canyon view, while exhibits cover the park’s geology, plants, animals, trails, and human history. A free 20-minute film explains how geologic events raised and eroded the surrounding mountains.Films and exhibits also include Kumeyaay culture and traditions through the present day, along with Spanish, Mexican, and American periods. The center is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and closes on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day. The theater is currently closed, though the geology film is available online. Heat, fire, storm damage, and maintenance can change trail access even when the building is open.
