USS Constitution Museum

USS Constitution was launched in Boston in 1797 and remains the world's oldest commissioned warship afloat. Cannon shot appeared to bounce from its thick oak hull during the 1812 battle with HMS Guerriere, giving the ship its Old Ironsides nickname. The museum in Charlestown Navy Yard uses objects and hands-on exhibits to explain the ship, its battles, and the work of its crews. The museum and ship are separate operations. The nonprofit museum is in Building 22 and uses suggested admission. The U.S. Navy operates the ship nearby, offers free first-come boarding, and requires a physical government-issued photo ID or passport from visitors 18 and older. Ship access can change for weather, maintenance, ceremonies, and other Navy operations.
