Westside Park

The view is dramatic because the infrastructure is. At the center of Westside Park, a former quarry now holds a 35.5-acre reservoir—part of a project designed to extend Atlanta’s emergency water reserve from roughly three days to more than thirty. Around it, 280 acres of paths, lawns, overlooks, native planting, and green infrastructure form the city’s largest park.Approach through the sculptural gateway, then follow the grade toward the quarry edge. The scale arrives gradually: wooded land opens to sky, the reservoir drops below, and the skyline sits beyond a piece of public works that has been made part of public life. It is the pass’s clearest final image of Atlanta beginning again without erasing what the ground used to do.The park is free and generally open daily 6:00 AM–11:00 PM. Stay behind barriers around the working reservoir; swimming and water access are not allowed. Paths include accessible routes, but grades and distances can be substantial. City rules prohibit portable grills at Westside Park, and sections may close for operations or maintenance.
