Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park

Here, civil-rights history stays grounded in a neighborhood. The Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park connects the places that shaped King’s early life and public work: the Birth Home, Historic Ebenezer Baptist Church, Fire Station No. 6, the King Center, and the streets of Sweet Auburn. Moving between them makes the scale of the story human before it becomes monumental.Listen for the tension between the preserved past and the unfinished work around it. This is not a single-building museum visit; it is a district best experienced on foot, with time for the visitor exhibits, the church, and the outdoor memorial landscape.Park grounds and buildings are free and generally open daily 9:00 AM–5:00 PM. The Birth Home reopened in July 2026, but its ranger-led tours hold only 15 visitors and require free, same-day, first-come registration at the temporary Visitor Center in Historic Fire Station No. 6. Current tour times and building access can change, so confirm with NPS on the day of your visit.
