Arizona Route 66 Museum
Kingman’s restored Powerhouse pairs the Arizona Route 66 Museum with the photograph this pass was missing: a lighted, drive-through Route 66 shield in the visitor-center lot. Begin outside and take the vehicle portrait without blocking the loop, then enter the 1907–1911 power plant for a chronological account of travel across the 35th parallel—from Indigenous trade routes and survey expeditions through Dust Bowl migration, postwar Main Street, and the road’s revival. The museum opened here in 2001, and 2025 centennial work added interactive kiosks, larger historic-image displays, and accessibility improvements. The drive-through shield is available outdoors around the clock unless events or maintenance restrict it; the museum is ticketed. Kingman Tourism currently lists daily hours of 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., last admission 4:30 p.m., with major-holiday closures. Verify before arrival and allow at least an hour. Use the marked vehicle path, wait your turn, keep passengers inside until fully stopped, and never stage a photo in Andy Devine Avenue. Inside, follow exhibit and photography rules. The stop works because the irresistible sign and the serious history occupy the same campus.
