National Museum of Nuclear Science & History
Enter the age that changed Albuquerque—and the world.Founded in 1969, the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History is a Smithsonian Affiliate and the only congressionally chartered museum in the nuclear field. Its exhibitions follow atomic science through the Manhattan Project, the Cold War, medicine, energy, and later technologies, while the nine-acre Heritage Park brings aircraft, missiles, and other large artifacts into physical scale.Hold the uses of nuclear science together without turning the visit into either a triumph parade or a single verdict. Compare medical and energy applications with weapons, secrecy, environmental legacies, and human consequence, then treat the museum’s interpretation as a starting point alongside Indigenous, downwinder, worker, and survivor accounts. Much of Heritage Park is exposed to sun and weather; indoor and outdoor time should be planned separately. Current official hours are 08:00–17:00 daily.
