Indiana Statehouse

Indiana chose Indianapolis as the site of its new centrally located capital in 1821. The present Statehouse was completed in 1888 and puts the executive, legislative, and judicial branches inside one limestone building arranged around a rotunda. This is an active government building with a public security checkpoint, not an open museum. Photo identification is required for entry, and government business or state holidays can change access. Weekday tours run on a limited schedule, with self-guided brochures available when public areas are open.
